OUR NEW HOME

St. Charles new construction

I have some exciting news to share – me and the Mr. are building our first home together with the help of my Dad! It has been a dream of mine since I was little to have my dad (who is a custom home builder) build me a home. This year, due to a series of events that lined up perfectly, we found and purchased an amazing wooded lot and secured our new construction mortgage.

I thought that it would be fun to share the progress along the way – including planning, designing, building, and of course MOVING! Right now, we live downtown Chicago in a condo we purchased 4.5 years ago. I am super sad to be leaving our amazing home and all of my clients downtown, but ultimately I am ready to move to the burbs and get established for the years ahead. Yep, this girl is moving an hour west of the city. Our home will be close to both of our parents and only a train ride away to the city.

So to get you caught up, in March of this year we closed on our lot and just two weeks ago we closed on our mortgage. Late Spring, I sat down with my dad and we came up with a rough sketch of the home and then we had an architect bring it to life. There is nothing more cool than seeing your vision be drawn to scale.
new home designThe style that we are going for is industrial farmhouse. I have literally 22 secret boards on Pinterest that helped me to get organized. I knew as soon as my dad started asking about everything from floor color to doorknobs that I needed to get organized fast. Speaking of design – so far we have the brick picked out (white), our floors (white wash), and our windows! The window experience has been the most difficult as we are looking for a thin black interior and exterior framed window – something that is not common in the suburbs at all. We had a meeting with a company this weekend which I am hoping gets back to us with a good quote. Budgets ruin everything 😉white wash floor ideas

Two weeks ago we finally broke ground and things have been moving REALLY quick since. Trees have been cleared, our driveway was cut in the ground, and the foundation gets poured this week. My dad said it will sit for about 3 weeks and then framing will begin… oh my gosh!!! breaking ground

Anyway, that’s it for now!!! Drop a note below if you’ve built a custom home before and what your favorite memory of the process was.

Excited to keep sharing!
